If diet culture wasn’t so toxic, Intuitive Eating would just be called eating!

About Intuitive Eating

The first edition of Intuitive Eating was published in 1995 by dietitians Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. The authors define Intuitive Eating as a mind-body, self-care eating framework which integrates instinct, emotion, and rational thought. It is an evidenced-based model with a validated assessment scale and over 150 studies showing benefit to date.

Intuitive Eating is comprised of the following 10 principles:

  1. Reject the Diet Mentality

  2. Honor Your Hunger

  3. Make Peace with Food

  4. Challenge the Food Police

  5. Discover the Satisfaction Factor

  6. Feel Your Fullness

  7. Cope with Your Emotions with Kindness

  8. Respect Your Body

  9. Movement - Feel the Difference

  10. Honor Your Health with Gentle Nutrition

Intuitive Eating is NOT:

  • The “eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full” diet

  • A tool for weight loss or gain

  • “giving up” and eating whatever you want, whenever you want
